Airwolf’s Cool Jacket for EVO-style hot ends is a flexible insulating sleeve designed to significantly improve print quality and reliability. Particularly when used in connection with lower melt and fan-dependent materials such as PLA and PETG, Cool Jacket permits high side fan speeds to dramatically increase print quality. Cool Jacket also increases hot end longevity, print reliability, and reduces jams by insulating the hot components of the hot end from the cooling radiators. Finally, as Cool Jacket insulates the majority of the hot end, it further minimizes the chance of users from coming into contact with hot components.
Cool Jacket is a custom-molded insulating sleeve made from high-temperature compatible materials for use in covering heater bodies of the EVO hot end. The thick insulating sleeve encapsulates heat in the heater bodies, preventing most heat from escaping to the surrounding environment. The opposite is true as well as the insulation protects the heaters from the influence of cooler outside air.
One of the main advantages of Cool Jacket is improved PLA and PETG printing. In particular, Cool Jacket’s heat-insulation properties prevent cooling air from the side fans from lowering heater body temperature. This is critical when printing with fan-dependent materials as much higher fan speeds (up to 100%) can be employed to drive significant improvements in print quality without the risk of cooling off the heater bodies.
Cool Jacket also enables the heaters to run more efficiently, transferring more heat to the filament and less to the surrounding environment, including the printed part. This improves printing reliability by allowing the center fan to more effectively cool the upper portions of the hot end, reducing the likelihood of heat-related jams. As the heaters work less, heater life also increases. Finally, temperature control is more precise with the thermocouples now encapsulated in the insulation.
Installation is as simple as slipping Cool Jacket over the existing heater bodies. Cool Jacket will also keep the hot end and nozzles cleaner (and easier to distinguish sizes) by not absorbing errant debris.
